OMBC Series #5

The race starts with a short, paved prolog before diving into pure singletrack for the entire race loop. Not a lot of climbing, but you will encounter winding switch backs after the field loop, and two rock gardens. Novice course includes one of the two rock gardens.

Race Highlights

Visit HWB Cycling for a safety check prior to race. A small fee will apply.

$5 from every paid MTB adult entry goes directly to Appalachian Outdoor Adventure Club (AOA) to benefit Dillon State Park MTB Trails.

This is an ideal race for beginners to pedal their way into the OMBC series.

A record 161 Kids finished the kids race in 2021!

Entry Information

Online registration

  • MTB Online Registration is $40.
  • Discounted Fee Deadline: Saturday, Aug 9, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. $50 on race day.
  • MTB Online Novice Youth 12-14 and 8-11 divisions - $20.
  • MTB Kids 10 and under race - $10
  • Timing Anklet Fee: All racers will be required to purchase a timing anklet that is good for the entire season. There is a one-time fee of $6. Once you have a timing anklet, you will be required to enter the anklet number for each race when you register online.
  • Race Plates: $5 refundable fee; If you already have an OMBC race plate, you will be asked to enter it at registration.

Course Information

Know before you arrive

  • The course runs clockwise (traditional direction) from the beach hitting the flat field loop after leaving the paved road.
  • All racers will do the “Scar Tissue” (the first red section around the horse camp)
  • All racers will do “Hard Tail for Sale” rock section (the second red section after sled hill). Racers finish each lap on the paved road that drops down from the Horse Camp.
  • Each lap is 7 miles
  • Experts ride 3 laps for 21 miles
  • Sport and Expert Women ride two laps for 14 miles
  • Novices do 1 lap for 7 miles

Know your limits

  • This is a self-supported race.
  • There will be no water stations for MTB Novice Class Racers completing one lap.
  • There will be a water station and place for bottle drops located at the start/finish for Sport and Expert MTB racers completing laps.

Race Rules

  1. Racers may finish the race riding, pushing, or carrying a bike that is mechanically impaired so long as all laps have been completed and no short-cutting of the course has occurred. No bike parts, including wheel sets, may be accepted by a racer from a non registered racer along the race course. If a racer leaves the course for any reason, to make a repair for example, they must return to the point that they went off course in order to re-enter the race. All parts, including wheel sets, must remain near the start/finish or race parking area. Failure to follow these rules may result in disqualification from the race.   
  2. Racers must ride with courtesy at all times, and allow faster riders to pass when trail space allows.
  3. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated, and may result in the issuance of a DNF by a race official.
  4. Falsification of registration information will result in the issuance of a DNF.
  5. Race/rider protests may be filed with a race official within 20 minutes of completing the race.
  6. Sport and Novice level series division winners are required to move to a higher class the following season.
